Creation of a home document management platform with AI extraction

EdwixEdwix, product preview

Edwix, designed by the Canadian company NexOne, helps homeowners manage everything related to their home: invoices, warranties and insurance policies in one place, with reminders before each due date. Its AI reads the documents you upload and extracts the merchant, the due date, the category and the amount. The trial is free, with no credit card.

Context and challenges

Homeowners accumulate documents in very varied formats, and existing text recognition tools were not flexible enough to extract merchants, due dates and expenses. Edwix had to make this extraction reliable, because the value of the product depends on it. We supported it for three years, from design with the client to a product in service.

What we did

AI extraction

A pipeline that reads documents (text recognition, then a language model) and extracts the type, the issuer, the due dates and the amounts, with instructions specific to each type of information.

An evaluation bench

Sets of labelled documents and an evaluation tool to measure extraction quality at every change.

Built for Quebec

Rules to classify invoices, contracts, tax notices, insurance policies and deeds, and for Quebec taxes (GST and QST). Later, the extraction was rebuilt as an agent on Appstrate.

An email address for each property

A document forwarded by email is received and filed in the right property.

Shared properties

Several members per property, with invitations and transfers, and emails in French and English.

Due dates in the calendar

Synchronization with Google Calendar and Google Drive.

Subscriptions and expenses

Subscription payment and expense tracking.

A platform with three environments

Development, staging and production, with automated deployment of database changes.
